Who We Are

Women on Environment Mission is a female led organization dedicated to women empowerment in environment conservation, gender equality and women rights. WEM was founded by ambitious women who saw a need to bring women together to begin discussions on climate change, women rights and land rights. WEM is envisioned to achieving the sustainable development goal (SDGs). We believe that to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls (SDG 5) is critical in addressing Poverty (SDG 1), hunger (SDG 2), for attaining food security (SDG 2), affordable and clean energy (SGD 7) and addressing climate change (SDG 13).

Why Women

Women are the most impacted by climate change. Studies have found that 80% of people displaced by climate change are women. The economic and health impacts of more prolonged droughts, reduced food production, and severe weather events are disproportionately felt by women.

The world’s poorest countries are the most vulnerable, with women making up the majority of the 1.5 billion people living on less than $1 per day. Women also face more adverse effects of natural disasters and pollution. After floods, and landslides, women face higher rates of both sexual violence and health problems.

Our Mission

To advance women’s empowerment and end the climate crisis, poverty and food insecurity.

Our Vision

A world in which women rights and integrity of the environment is protected.
